FAQs

One of the benefits of fat-tire electric bikes, like the Aventure and Aventure.2, is their ability to ride in all-terrain. There are virtually no roads that are off-limits with Aventure and Aventure.2! Their 4-inch fat tires give riders outstanding traction on even the most troublesome terrain. They can perform on wet stones, muddy paths, snowy hills to beach trails.

While Aventure and Aventure.2 are all-terrain fat tire ebikes, that doesn't mean that they're all weather permitting. After all, they are an electric bike, with electrical components needing some added caution.

Aventure models are built to the IPX4 water-resistant standard. IPX4 is standard that indicates your bike is resistant to multi-directional water splashes, meaning it is okay to ride or park your Aventure model in rain. Light to moderate raindrops or splashes from a wet road will not harm your ebike, but be wary of harsher weather and rainfall conditions. Additionally, although Aventure models can ride remarkably in snow, that isn't to say it is as safe to ride during active and heavy snowfall.

The general rule of thumb is, if weather impacts your visibility and has the possibility to affect your bike's functionality, it is likely not a safe riding condition. With that in mind, safe riding!

Making sure your ebike is set up to your comfort and liking is the key to a safe and enjoyable ride! There are no 'right' or 'wrong' ways to adjust your ebike during this setup process. Instead, we encourage you to read through the instructions first, to become familiar with the adjustment process, and then have some fun as you figure out what your most comfortable positions are.

Brake Levers

There's two main adjustments you can make to your front and rear brake levers: their placement on the handlebar and the angle up or down. Aventon typically recommends having a straight wrist when gripping the levers. Loosen the bolts to move both brake levers inwards towards the center of the handlebar or further out towards the grips. Find a position that is best for your hand placement, then before you tighten, consider adjusting the angle of the levers since you've already loosened the bolts! That way, you'll find a position that doesn't cause too much bend in your wrists, avoiding wrist pain and an uncomfortable ride!

Shifter

After you've adjsuted the brake levers, next up is the shifter. The shifter, which allows you to shift between gears, is located on the driveside (right-hand side) of the handlebar. You may also adjust its placement on the handlebar as well as its angle, but please note that the shifter must remain on the driveside of the handlebar.  Simply loosen the bolt, find your desired position, and retighten!

Handlebar Angle

To adjust the angle of your handlebars, loosen the 4 fixing bolts near the stem of the handlebar. They are located behind the display in an X-pattern. Then, simply rotate the handlebar fore (upward) or aft (downward) to your desired position.  Please note this does not raise the handlebar, but merely positions it at an upward or downward angle. Re-tighten the 4 bolts which will lock your new position in place.

Stem Height (Adjusting Spacers)

There are 2-3 spaces located between the stem and the headset. More specifically, underneath the stem and right above the headset where you inserted the handlebars during assembly. These headset spacers will give you minimal room to adjust how high or low the handlebar itself sits; Moving spacers from above the stem to below it will raise your handlebars while moving spacers from below the stem to above it will lower your handlebars. Follow the steps in our article to learn how to raise ebike handlebars via adjustments made to spacers.

Adjusting the display

The angle of the display on your ebike can be adjusted for a more comfortable fit. Two bolts keep the Full Color Display securely in place on the handlebar. Loosen both bolts with a hex key then adjust the angle of the display to your desired position. To finish, tighten both bolts to keep the new position in place.

Adjusting the Control Pad

The angle and placement of the control pad, which is connected to the Full Color Display, can be adjusted so that it fits your thumb best. Simply loosen the bolt on the underside of the control pad and reposition it. You can move it further left or right, and angle it higher or lower, on the left-hand side of the handlebar. The control pad can not be replaced on the right-hand side of the handlebar. Once you found your desired position, retighten the bolt.

Adjusting or Changing the Throttle Switch

The Aventon thumb throttle is left-facing on the handlebar. Since the throttle is designed to attach to the left-hand side of the handlebar controls, it, unfortunately, can not be unplugged, removed, and reinstalled on the right-hand side as it will be improperly situated. However, the angle and placement of the throttle can be adjusted so that it fits your thumb best. Simply loosen the bolt on the underside of the throttle and reposition. You can move it further left or right, and angle it higher or lower, on the left-hand side of the handlebar. Once you found your desired position, retighten the bolt.

Saddle Height

Adjusting your seat height is quick and easy! Open the seat post clamp then adjust it to your desired height. Simply pull the seatpost higher or push it lower to find a comfortable height for you. Be careful not to pass the minimum insertion mark; The minimum insertion mark represents the most minimal amount the stem must be inserted, in order to safely stay in place. Once you find a comfortable height, close the clamp.

Saddle Angle, Fore, and Aft

Adjustments to the saddle aren't limited to just its height. You can also adjust the angle, fore, and aft to tailor your seat to you! First, we'll go over why these adjustments are important. Then, we'll walk you through how to make the adjustment.

Angle - Finding the correct saddle angle for you is important for a couple of reasons. First, if it is angled too far back, you will feel as if you're slipping backward, not to mention this will put more pressure on your behind while riding. If it's too far forward, or down, you'll constantly be repositioning yourself during your ride. Not to mention, there will be tremendous pressure on your wrists from your weight shifting forward!

Fore-Aft Position - The fore-aft position of your saddle refers to how relative you are, or are not, to the handlebars. Essentially, this is you moving the saddle more forward or backward. Finding the right position for you and your riding style will help to reduce pressure on your wrists, lower back, and behind, and even help to prevent you from hunching your shoulders forward!

Saddle Angle, Fore, and Aft Adjustment Process

Seat posts come with either one bolt or two bolts located underneath the saddle. First, inspect the underside of your saddle to determine if you'll need to follow the 1-bolt or 2-bolt process. Then read on!

1-Bolt

Loosen the bolt under the saddle, until it is quite free. Then, adjust the saddle to the angle and position you desire. Tilt it forward or back, and slide it towards the handlebars or away from them. Then, re-tighten the bolt.

2-Bolt

Loosen both bolts under the saddle until it is loose enough to adjust. The angle on two-bolt seat posts is adjusted on a pivot: If you loosen the front and tighten the rear, the front of your saddle will lift whereas if you tighten the front and loosen the rear, the front of your saddle will lower. You can also slide it forward towards the handlebars or away from it to adjust the fore-aft position. Then, re-tighten the bolts.

First and foremost, we hope that you are okay! Electric bikes can be replaced but our time and health can't, so we also hope that you are recovering well. The severity of the accident and damages sustained will give us a better indicator of how to proceed.

Regardless of if you and your ebike suffered a minor or major crash, do not ride your Aventure ebike. It is not certain if it is safe to ride in its current condition. You will need to consult with a local bike shop or an Aventon dealer to understand the full extent of the damages. Often, the damage you see on the exterior is just the beginning. There can be damage to your ebike's internal frame or mechanisms that aren't always visible to the naked eye.

With any sort of accident or damage to an ebike, Aventon requires an authorized Aventon dealer or local bike shop to inspect further to determine if there are, or are not, any infrastructural damages that are not visible to the eye. If they conclude that there are internal damages, Aventon cannot sell replacement parts as this then becomes a safety issue. We unfortunately are unable to sell any replacements parts to you without this extra inspection.

We ask that you take your affected Aventure to a local bike shop or Aventon dealer. Aventon's dealer locator can assist in finding an Aventon authorized bike shop near you. If they conclude your bike is safe and intact and simply needs certain replacement parts, please contact our support team with the following information:

  • Your name and proof of purchase (an Aventon order number will do!)
  • If purchased from a bike shop, please attach your receipt
  • The contact information of the bike shop you visited as Aventon will need to verify the situation with them
  • A short explanation of what occurred and the components you were told needed to be replaced

Once you submit an inquiry to our team, a representative will then be in touch shortly!

You will need to download the Aventon mobile app (available for both iOS and Android) to change the top speed on your ebike. Once you download the app, you will need to pair your smartphone to the Full Color Display. Our How-To guide will walk you through the process of pairing your smartphone to your ebike. Or, follow the instructions below after you've turned your electric bike on:

  1. Hold down the center button on your handlebar control to enter into the menu of your display.
  2. Use the minus button ( " - " ) to scroll down to the “Connect to App” selection.
  3. On your phone, open the Aventon app, create an account, and sign in.
  4. Then select “scan pair” (while still in the app).
  5. Scan the QR code that shows up on your electric bike's screen.
  6. You can give your ebike a nickname then select “confirm.”
  7. Once the Aventon app has been connected to your ebike, you can go into the settings menu in the Aventon app (click the settings icon located in the top right of the Ebike page), and scroll down until you're able to find the selection that lets you adjust your top speed preference!

Yes you can! To adjust the angle of your Aventure or Aventure.2 handlebars, first loosen the 4 fixing bolts near the stem of the handlebar. They are located behind the display in an X-pattern. Then, simply rotate the handlebar fore (upward) or aft (downward) to your desired position. But please know that this adjustment does not raise the handlebar; it merely positions it at an upward or downward angle. Re-tighten the 4 bolts and you'll lock your new position in place!

If you're looking to lower or raise the height of your handlebar with an after-market component, you'll need to visit a local bike shop or Aventon dealer. Aventure and Aventure.2 handlebars have very little room remaining on the cables and housing to accommodate a modification. If an improper adjustment is made, you may run the risk of stretching the cables when taking a full turn, which is something you don't want to happen!

A bike shop will inspect both the cables and housing to determine if there is enough room and assist you with fitting either a replacement stem or stem riser. Replacing the handlebar itself with a different style is not recommended. A replacement stem or stem riser will give you the ability to adjust the angle of the handlebar higher or lower, to find your comfortable fit!

Yes! Aventure and Aventure.2's saddle features standard rails, which is a component you'll need to look for when searching for a new bike saddle.

Saddle sizes are generally standard. Aventon ebikes can accommodate most regular-size saddles, suspension saddles, or any saddles that contain rails on the underside. If you have any questions about changing the saddle on your Aventure or Aventure.2 ebike, please contact Aventon support.

Ebike storage throughout the winter means that you’re likely going to be storing your Aventure or Aventure.2 for a prolonged period of time; not just 4 - 5 days like you usually might. Depending on where you live, with winter, may also come the threat of extreme conditions, prolonged rain or snow, and low temperatures. These factors will all have an impact on how you should store your ebike over the winter. Below are some best practices regarding e-bike storage during the winter:

  1. Clean before storing. Clean all of the dirt and debris off your ebike's frame and then wipe it down with a dry cloth. Don't forget to check that the battery contacts are clean and dry. Lastly, lube the chain and spin the crankarms a couple of rotations to ensure the lube circulates the entire chain.
  2. Charge your battery. Lithium-ion batteries, like the Aventon battery, should never be stored with an empty charge. Charge your battery to a 75%-80% charge level before storing. You will want to check up on your ebike battery monthly to make sure the battery doesn't drop below the 75%-80% range.
  3. Store your ebike in a cool and dry space, like a garage.
  4. Store your ebike battery in a cool, dry place and never attached to your ebike or on the charger. For example, on a wooden surface in the garage is best. If you live in an area with below-freezing temperatures, you can also store your ebike battery inside somewhere safe. Temperatures for battery storage should be between 32 °F – 104 °F (0 °C – 40 °C).

Battery keys are typically securely attached to the cables on or near your ebike's handlebar. Be careful not to accidentally damage any of the wirings when removing keys from the handlebar. Keys may also be found in the accessory box if you were unable to physically locate them on your electric bike. If unable to locate your keys, please contact Aventon Support.

To ensure your Aventure or Aventure.2 ebike's longevity and smooth operation, and your safety when riding, Aventon recommends regular pre-ride and post-ride checks, as well as bi-annual and annual check-ups. The following is a general overview of the ebike checks you should incorporate into your biking routine, both on a regular basis and less regularly long-term. For those riding their ebike daily, you'll want to follow these schedules very closely. For more intermittent and casual riders, you will need less frequent routine tune-ups. For our more expansive and detailed list, view our Ebike Maintenance Guide and Schedule. If you have questions regarding your Aventure or Aventure.2 and its maintenance, please contact Aventon Support.

Pre-Ride Checklist

Before heading out on a bike ride, you'll want to make sure your ebike is both secure and prepped. This means your tires are properly inflated, the brakes are actively working, the headset is tight, the chain is clean and lubed, and the battery is sufficiently charged. With a little practice, you'll be able to knock this out in about 5 minutes!

Post-Ride Checklist

Now, after each ride, it's time to inspect your ebike and get ready to wind it down. Some of these include inspecting the tires, rims, and derailleur for dirt or damage, wiping down the frame with a rag, and charging the battery if you're running low. In time, this should also be a quick and straightforward check!

Weekly Ebike Checklist

A little more in-depth than pre-ride and post-ride checks, you'll want to inspect, clean, and maintain the following weekly.

  • Wipe down chainrings, cassette, and derailleur pulleys
  • Check and tighten the crankset
  • Inspect brake pads

Monthly Ebike Checklist

Monthly bike checks will require a more in-depth inspection of your bike and tune-ups as necessary. You'll need to:

  • Check for chain water
  • Wipe down and lubricate suspension sliders (if applicable)
  • Lube all braking and gear shifting cables
  • Degrease and lubricate the chain & all chainrings, both front and back
  • Lubricate all other drivetrain elements i.e. the derailleur and chain

Six-Month Checklist

The bi-annual, or a bike check around the six-month mark, is commonly known as a complete tune-up. For daily ebike riders, a complete tune-up is required about twice a year. For casual riders, a complete tune-up is only needed about once a year. This bike check can be done through an Aventon dealer or local ebike shop. Not only will they inspect and adjust your braking system, drivetrain, tires and wheels, and a few other components but they will make adjustments as necessary to ensure your bike is in its optimal shape.

Annual Checklist

An expansion of the six-month checklist, annual bike checks will involve everything from the bi-annual check along with a complete breakdown and inspection of your ebike: checking all the components, cleaning and lubing them, and putting everything back in its place. For the daily ebike rider, this check should be completed annually. For casual riders, an annual check may be completed once every 18 months to 2 years. An annual ebike check may also be done through an Aventon dealer or local bike shop.
